Surf Buddy

Where everything windsurfing comes together.

Surf Buddy is a windsurfing platform built around an app. It brings powerful tools, knowledge and community together while connecting riders, coaches, event organizers and other people shaping the sport.

The windsurfing app we wanted to use ourselves.

Three iPhones showing Surf Buddy: the session map on the left, the home screen in the centre, and session details on the right

Windsurfing is full of small and big challenges: choosing the right gear, trimming your setup, preparing for the conditions, understanding a spot, tracking sessions and turning progress into something visible. We wanted one place that helps with those moments, keeps track of your windsurfing journey and makes improvement easier to understand, all while keeping the fun of being on the water at the center.

Surf Buddy is built around the app, but it is more than an app. Many features, including community-driven spot guides, are or will also be available on the web. A dedicated Coaching Hub will help riders discover coaches, clinics and coaching events, while leaderboards and other community features bring windsurfers together to connect, share experiences and learn from one another.

Our motivation

We want more people to enjoy windsurfing.

Surf Buddy exists to support this sport and everything that makes it special: the sessions, the learning curve, the people, the places and the shared moments on the water.

Make it easier to start

We want to make the most useful tools easier to find and easier to use, so entering windsurfing feels less overwhelming.

Support real progress

From everyday decisions to long-term improvement, Surf Buddy should help riders understand what to do next and enjoy the process.

Connect the community

Surf Buddy should help people exchange knowledge, discover useful local information and upcoming events, and share the fun experiences that make the sport worth it.

Include every level

Surf Buddy is meant for everyone from beginners to pro athletes, with tools that stay approachable but can grow with the rider.

03 Session details

More than
a great afternoon.

Keep the numbers and the memories together. A session becomes a personal record of where you went, how it felt and what made it special.

Go deeper into every metric
Speed, turns, legs and weather each have a dedicated section with detailed insights and session analysis. Connect how it felt on the water with what the numbers reveal.
The story behind the stats
Automatically added photos and videos, personal notes and gear ratings help you remember the conditions and the feeling. Everything comes together in your personal Journal*, so you can look back through time, remember what you’ve accomplished and see how you did it.* The dedicated Journal section will be introduced in more detail soon.

04 Speed analysis and more

Find your speed.

That powered-up reach. The gybe where you kept your speed. Take a closer look at the moments that made your session. Speed is just one of many session metrics you can explore in detail.

Find that perfect run
Pinpoint when and where you had a great run, then follow it on the map to see the line you took and how you carried your speed.

06 Trim helper

Small adjustments.
A different feel.

The wind has dropped. Less downhaul? A higher boom? If you’ve ever wondered how to trim your rig again, the Trim Helper puts the answers at your fingertips.

See what you are adjusting
Interactively adjust different parts of your rig on screen and see how each change affects your sailing.
Find the fix
Struggling with spin-outs? The symptom finder guides you from common problems on the water straight to the adjustments that can help prevent them.

07 Spot guide

A little local
knowledge.

Get a feel for a spot before your first reach. Conditions, equipment suggestions, community results and your own sessions meet on one page.

Details that matter
That big rock in the middle of the bay? You’ll want to know about it before heading out. From local hazards to the weather stations sailors rely on, webcams and more, Surf Buddy puts the details that matter right on the map.
Local knowledge. Shared by everyone.
The best spot knowledge comes from the people who sail there. Everyone can add and edit spot information, and we cross-check it with locals and professionals to keep it accurate. Sailing somewhere Surf Buddy hasn’t discovered yet? Adding it starts with one tap. What you know could make someone else’s first session there a great one.

Surf Buddy for Apple Watch

Your session.
Right on your wrist.

Surf Buddy will work with many GPS devices, and even without one. We believe Apple Watch offers the best experience, so we’ve built a dedicated app for it. Here’s what you’ll see during a session on the water.

Apple Watch Ultra with a blue Trail Loop

01 / Speed

Find your pace.

Your current speed takes centre stage, with your average and top speed just below. The middle bar benchmarks your speed against others at the same spot, your fastest session, or even the fastest man and woman in windsurfing: Antoine Albeau and Jenna Gibson.

The video cycles through speed, heart rate and energy, turns, distance and legs, and wind conditions. Speed shows current, average and top speed. Energy shows heart rate, a heart-rate graph, average heart rate and calories. Turns shows gybe and tack counts. Distance shows total distance, leg count, average leg distance and the longest leg. Wind shows speed, direction and the forecast. The video then quickly rewinds and repeats.
